Tuure Pitkälä, a sales and installation specialist at LVI Tuikku, explains that their cooperation with TKR began approximately eight years ago.

“We have extensive experience working with TKR in the drainage sector. We coat multiple drains weekly across various projects using bio-based coatings. We particularly perform floor drain coatings almost exclusively with TKR solutions – this approach eliminates the need for floor chiseling, which is already a significant advantage in itself,” Pitkälä explains.

TKR’s coating solutions have proven especially valuable in extensive pipeline renovation projects, where traditional floor drain replacement would require considerably more labor, time, and financial resources.

“Particularly in older apartment buildings with thin intermediate floors, the heavy chiseling work required for drain replacement can, in worst cases, break through the floor into the apartment below. With coating, the work is significantly faster and more straightforward, allowing residents to remain in their apartments during renovation.”

“We currently have a pipeline renovation project encompassing 270 apartments. The building owners wanted to avoid replacing each apartment’s floor drains for cost considerations – if a single replacement costs approximately €3,000, the total expense would approach one million euros,” Pitkälä calculates.

With TKR, one can effectively save the entire cost of drain replacement work, while also reducing the project duration by several weeks.

“An individual bathroom renovation can be completed in approximately two weeks, but typical pipeline renovations require about five weeks. Since waterproofing is necessary in renovation projects regardless, and TKR is also suitable for this purpose, all that’s needed is a quick-drying drain coating, with the remainder representing pure savings.”

An Alternative to Epoxy in Demanding Conditions

TKR’s products have demonstrated exceptional durability in challenging environments where traditional materials fail to perform.

“For instance, we currently have an ongoing project at a research center in Helsinki where hot liquids are processed. Epoxy and other conventional coating alternatives have been tested in these conditions without success. Both floors and drains at this facility are now being treated with TKR,” Pitkälä states.

“We also use epoxies daily in pipe relining, so I have a basis for comparison. Both have been used for several years, and I know precisely which one offers greater reliability.”

Pitkälä’s confidence in TKR’s products is so strong that he utilizes them in his personal projects as well.

“I have also employed TKR in personal applications – if, for example, my boat has cracks or holes, I can effectively repair them with the coating. When I need something that absolutely must endure, I always choose TKR.”
